Atmospheric convergence zones stemming from large-scale mixing

چکیده
Abstract. Organised cloud bands are important features of tropical and subtropical rainfall. These structures often regarded as convergence zones, alluding to an association with coherent atmospheric flow. However, the flow kinematics is not usually taken into account in classification methods for this type event, large-scale lines rarely evident instantaneous diagnostics such Eulerian convergence. Instead, existing zone definitions rely on heuristic rules shape, duration size cloudiness fields. Here we investigate role turbulence shaping moisture South America. We employ finite-time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE), a metric deformation among neighbouring trajectories, define zones attracting Lagrangian (LCSs). Attracting LCSs frequent America, climatologies consistent Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ), American Low-Level Jet (SALLJ) Intertropical (ITCZ). In regions under direct influence ITCZ SACZ, rainfall significantly positively correlated mixing measured by FTLE. south southeast Brazil associated significant positive flux anomalies. Geopotential height composites suggest that occurrence these related teleconnection mechanisms Pacific–South Atlantic. believe kinematical approach can be used alternative region-specific algorithms; it may help advance understanding underlying rain their hydrological cycle.

High Scale Mixing Unification and Large Neutrino Mixing Angles
Starting with the hypothesis that quark and lepton mixings are identical at or near the GUT scale, we show that the large solar and atmospheric neutrino mixing angles together with the small reactor angle Ue3 can be understood purely as a result of renormalization group evolution provided the three neutrinos are quasi-degenerate and have same CP parity. It predicts the common Majorana mass for ...
متن کاملMnemonic Convergence: From Empirical Data to Large-Scale Dynamics
This study builds on the assumption that large-scale social phenomena emerge out of the interaction between individual cognitive mechanisms and social dynamics. Within this framework, we empirically investigated the propagation of memory effects (retrieval induced forgetting and practice effects) through sequences of social interactions. We found that the influence a public figure has on an ind...

Generalized Neutrino Mixing from the Atmospheric Anomaly
We determine the neutrino mixing and mass parameters that are allowed by the Super–Kamiokande atmospheric neutrino data in a three–neutrino model with one mass–squared difference contributing to the oscillations. We find that although νμ → ντ oscillations are favored, νμ → νe oscillations with amplitude as large as 0.18 are allowed even after accounting for the limit from the CHOOZ reactor expe...
متن کاملMixing zones in magnetized differentially rotating stars
We study the secular instability of magnetized differentially rotating radiative zones taking account of viscosity and magnetic and thermal diffusivities. The considered instability generalizes the well-known Goldreich-Schubert-Fricke instability for the case of a sufficiently strong nagnetic field. In magnetized stars, instability can lead to a formation of non-spherical unstable zones where w...
